The Full Toss II

The Full Toss II

A family evening of cricketing entertainment - all welcome

Friday 11 July 2008 - Monkton Combe Cricket Ground

All Proceeds to PROPS

Advert - We’re only in it for the money.

This financial year the Hutchinson Jonas Group sponsored Limpley Stoke Cricket Club to their second successive promotion (£500).  We attended the PROPS (children with severe learning difficulties) Christmas Carol service and dropped off a cheque for £500 to add to the £1000 we raised for them in our Full Toss Charity Cricket Match  and the £500 we gave them for some technical equipment (midi creator)oh,  and a regular monthly donation.  Meanwhile Jane Jonas visited her old place of work, the House of Commons, as a guest of the Autistic Society and subsequently donated £1500 to the National Autistic Society -then put her money where her mouth is by taking on an autistic part-time employee.  Jonas again stepped in to help with the Samworth Brothers Charity Challenge, giving £2000.  Recognising that obesity was becoming a problem (not least his own), Joint Group MD Scott Hutchinson did the Bath half marathon for charity, then sponsored the Youth Rugby Team for the Bath Combination – paying £1000 to a squad of under 21 year old players from all backgrounds and walks of life.  The Chiefs touch rugby team were given £250 to spend on shirts. Bromley and Beckenham Hockey Club were sponsored to the tune of £500. Stacey Griffin became the recipient of the first Hutchinson Jonas Award for Best Student on Placement and was given £500 to presumably fund an addiction to Countdown and Pot Noodles.  A major client went bust owing us £38,000.00 but we still made sure our contractor (Peter S) was paid his full fee (we were not insured). After being approached by the head of fundraising at the

Apart from that we are definitely only in it for the money.

It has always been part of our business plan to support projects in our local community and to donate a percentage of our profits to local charity.

The most important charity is Props Forward; a Bristol – based rugby-inspired charity that helps put sparkle into the lives of children and young adults with special needs. "PROPS" stands for Providing Opportunities and Support for those with special needs. They are a project based organisation who support inclusive projects, working to develop ideas and initiatives that access those with special needs into the mainstream, whether this be vocationally based or educationally based.

As well as developing their own initiatives they also aim to support those who are working to achieve these goals.

LSCC

Hutchinson Sposored LSCC 2008

We currently sponsor Limpley Stoke Cricket Club – The club was established in 1990 and have recently joined the North Somerset Crusader League and were promoted in their first year. We have sponsored them with a lump sum over two years and it is up to them how they spend it!

10 questions for the LSCC Skipper at the start of the 2008/9 season

Nicklaus von Gregory

We met with Nick Gregory, the captain of Limpley Stoke Cricket Club (LSCC), who are sponsored by Hutchinson Consultancy, as the team prepares for the new season ahead.

1) What were your individual and team highlights of the 2007/8 season?

Individually I had an ok season with the bat but when you make it into the 80s it's always a bit disappointing not to go on and hit three figures as I did against our big rivals Whitchurch.

I didn't impress much with the ball, but I didn't need to, as the rest of the side stepped up to the plate and took wickets when we most needed them, none more so than Nick Twist in our final game when he took a hat-trick to seal victory over promotion hopefuls Keynsham and instead thrust us up another league. That was certainly a massive sporting highlight and I must admit to feeling rather smug as we walked off the pitch in our final game knowing we had sensationally stolen the second promotion place.

2) What do LSCC hope to achieve in 2008/9?

We are just looking for more of the same. We have only been playing league cricket for a couple of years and so we are all still learning, which isn't so easy to do when you are all at the ages we are. But, we have progressed so far in these two years and if we can keep improving then it doesn't really matter where we finish. The spirit has grown in the squad and I'll be happy if that continues, regardless of results.

3) How has the Hutchinson Sponsorship helped the club?

It's been a massive help. We are a poor club in comparison to other sides in the North Somerset League and so any help is a bonus, but Hutchinson Consultancy has gone beyond what we might have expected. Having a few extra quid in the bank account has relieved pressure on kit issues, paying for the ground (and the picturesque Monkton Combe doesn't come cheap) and has enabled us to have a few drinks as a club afterwards in the bar.

It is, however, not just a financial issue. We are a small club and it is nice to know that we have some backing from a larger organisation and Hutchinson Consultancy gives us that. Managing director Scott is always in communication with us, keen to find out how we are getting on and how further he can help. It's nice to know we’re not alone.

4) What's the LSCC team motto?

Faster, further, fatter.

5) How do you and the team prepare for a game?

In the past in the friendly years there was no such thing as preparation, but we have all realised that to have any success we do need to give ourselves the best possible chance and I'm afraid that has meant to most of us a quiet(ish) evening the night before. As we all know, hangovers get worse as we get older and we cannot recover as we did in our early 20's. This has not been an enforced measure, however, as I think we have all realised this for ourselves at some point over the last couple of years and that's testament to this team. We are all enjoying league cricket and have understood what it takes to succeed. We do still have a beer before, but it's a far cry from the days when almost the whole side was falling on to the pitch at 2.30pm.

6) Who are your sporting heroes and inspirations?

Up until a year ago I played rugby with a chap called Wyn Bailey. He wasn't very good, he was slow, he was annoying and he threw out quite a few hospital passes. But, he was 67 and still enjoyed playing as much as he did when he was half decent. I'd like to think that if I ever got to his age I’d be doing the same - playing sport with my mates with a smile on my face.

7) How would you define your leadership style and what's the secret of great cricketing captaincy?

I believe Limpley Stoke could be captained by any one of the 11 guys out on the pitch on any given Sunday and I try and remember that when I cross the white line. I am always open to a quiet word of advice and I'm not ashamed to admit when I have got something wrong. Of course, it's my final decision, but if there is someone there to offer help and support then I'll be glad of it and thankfully we have several players who will do that.

8) What are your player expectations?

We have a few guys who we can depend on for some big runs and a few wickets, but that's an easy one. I like to see the fringe players or the lesser stars come to the party when the going gets tough and, luckily, they always have done.

9) Following the success of the inaugral Full Toss charity Twenty:Twenty game last year against the Hutchinson Allst*rs what are your ambitions for the event this year?

This event can only get better. The rain came down last time around and I'm sure that kept some people away, but nonetheless there was still a fantastic turnout and I know that a substantial sum for PROPS was raised. It was great that so many people gave up their time to play for the Hutchinson Allst*rs, and we had a real selection dilemma of our own for once. This fixture I hope will be rubber-stamped on our fixture card for many years. Not only is it in aid of a great cause, but it's also a chance for us to relax into a game of friendly cricket.

10) LSCC has been around now for 18 years, playing in their third year of league cricket league. How do you hope the team will develop in the future?

We certainly need a few more youngsters in our ranks. We all pretty much started playing together as late teens and we are all still together now, and although that's a warming buddy-buddy story if you like, we know that our bodies are not getting any more supple. Aside from that, I'd like to think that we will keep going down the same road we’re on. We are improving as players, understanding the needs of league cricket and growing as a team.

It's been a hugely satisfying couple of years and the excitement is still there. We are all essentially little boys waiting for Christmas as the season approaches and, for however long that enthusiasm continues, that's how long we'll be around.

Friday 13th July 2007 - Monkton Combe Cricket Ground

£2 Entry on the day - All Proceeds to PROPS

A midsummer evening cricket match on one of England's most beautiful cricket grounds (so beautiful, Wisden featured it in their 2007 calendar). It promises to be an interesting encounter between LSCC first XI and a scratch team dubbed "The Hutchinson Allstars". The event, including a raffle, will be entirely in aid of PROPS, therefore we are positively encouraging as many spectators as possible for what promises to be a lovely early evening for all the family.

We recently sponsored the team to a semi-final place in the Bristol Charity Sixes tournament – see photographs in our news section. We also help with regular donations, our most recent was the purchase of a "midi creator".

"The MIDIcreator transforms body movements from grand gestures to the smallest finger flex, into musical sounds through which the child can express and explore their capacity to communicate and interact with the therapist."
