Introduction

It's been a funny old year in the food industry - freak floods caused havoc up and down the supply chain, farmers feared the worst for the health of their livestock and fancy footwork failed to win us the World Cup (OK, so it's not just the food industry that's had to tough it out this year). But, it's by no means all doom and gloom and here we celebrate some of the success stories of 2007.

We start with some of the year's biggest brands in 2007 - the year of the innovator. While he’s not quite made it into the top 100 yet, it might not be long for our food industry legend, Will Chase of Tyrrell's, the man who took on Tesco.

Someone else set for success next year is the future winner of the new Hutchinson Jonas award - which will go to the best placement student on a food science degree at the University of Reading. Closer to home, we hear from our interim spotlight, Mike Rapin, who is enjoying a challenging placement at Premier Foods, when he's not flying a plane.

Our NewsHound has dug up some industry news. There are some festive facts too, just to get you in the mood.
