The Sports Issue | Summer 2006

Welcome to the sporting third issue of Fii – in it’s exciting new format. Unchanged is the usual eclectic mix of News, Features and Articles designed to show as broad a view of the food industry and the interims who work in it as possible. As usual we have tried to make it “interesting” and the type of thing that you could read if you ever get a break.

These are exciting times at Hutchinson with the last two months seeing us break our records in the number of interims we have on assignment. We have also won places on a couple of PSLs (preferred supplier lists) including one Irish global food brand who invited us to tender on the strength of our reputation. We were accepted the same day.

The market is quite strong at the moment and at the time of writing (June) both Duncan and I agree that the pendulum seems to have swung from Technical to Operations. We believe that this is due to a hotter than predicted summer, together with the world cup having a knock-on effect in the demand for more production.

This demand will probably continue throughout the summer and continue into Christmas – it is therefore hugely important that all interims let us know their availability – please get your updated CV to us ASAP. There is a link at the foot of the page with our email address.

The “official” charity we support is Props-Forward www.props4ward.org “PROPS”

Providing Opportunities and Support for those with special needs. They are a project based organisation who support inclusive projects, working to develop ideas and initiatives that access those with special needs into the mainstream, whether this be vocationally based or educationally based. Have a look at their site if you ever get a chance – it will help put things in perspective.

This month saw us cementing our bond with the surrounding community and local sport even further with our sponsorshipof Limpley Stoke Cricket Club in their first year in a league. Despite their protestations that money was ruining the game and me being the “Kerry Packer” of village pub cricket, I believe that one or two of them may even be grateful.

handshakeOn the subject of cricket, our 10 Questions to an interim manager this quarter features Jerry Gadhia who makes an exciting revelation and sport is further explored with analysis of Rugby World Cup Winner Sir Clive Woodward’s “24 Hour Plane Test”.

Back by popular demand is the “UK Food Rich List” which has quite a few surprising entries and omissions this year. One individual not on this list but certainly on the Irish list is Tony O Reilly who is profiled in our “Food Heroes” section – a section we would like to make a regular feature.

Sadly we say “goodbye” to our researcher Jo Shilton this month as she has decided to go off round the world, preferring Bondi Beach and The Cook Islands to a business park on the outskirts of Chippenham. How odd.
